New House in Kew
Summer 2006: We've joined Kew Gardens and have enjoyed feeding the ducks there (mostly on weekdays as they probably get tons of bread on the weekends). We have a few other duck feeding areas - pond at Kew Green and the Lilly Pond in the new development between us and the Marks and Spencer. Yes, Ailsa loves ducks. She also has definite opinions about which books she prefers, etc. She's getting better at walking and even tries to 'dance'. I occasionally grab a few moments by putting on the Teletubbies or Balamory on the CBeeBies channel (no commercials).

We're now living closer to Heathrow and among some great park spaces - The Royal Botanical Gardens, Richmond Park, Chiswick House - as well as having Hampton Court a short bus ride away. They even have cricket on Kew Green in the summer - you can get a pint or Pimms at the pub and take it on the lawn to watch. We're about a 5 minute walk from the river, about a 6-7 minute walk to the tube stop, and probably a 15 minute walk to the Kew Gardens (Royal Botanical Gardens) entrance. The best part is that we have more space for guests and a garden for playing on sunny days (barbeque anyone). We have one guest room now, and will have a second one once we move upstairs. Almost forgot to mention one of the coolest features of our new place: an Air Raid Shelter below the garage. At first Paul thought it was a pit for working on cars... but it ran in the wrong direction. A neighbour confirmed it. Of course my initial thought - "would it make a good wine cellar, hmmm". Well, our local wine merchant does discount a lot of their wines when you buy more than six of a particular label.....hmmm...

Some of our mugs. Makes it easy to tell whose is whose when we refill them. Quite good fun - please don't take offence if you get the Control Freak mug. |

Some ducks in our back garden in late April 2007. This was about a week before the azaleas burst into bloom. I've potted up some blackberries, blueberries, and rhubarb so that they will move with us in a few years time. |

View of the 'back' side of Kew Gardens station from the Railway bridge on snowy morning in January 2007. Includes a Chinese takeaway, hair salon, dentist, newsagent, and dry cleaner (all the basics). The better range of shops are on the front of the station. |

Some of the shops on the front of the station on that snowy day in January 2007 : Kew Greenhouse (cafe/restaurant), Pharmacy, Oddbins (wine shop)...yes, there is also a Starbucks, Tesco Metro (groceries), a few newsagents, and the place I refer to as 'Aladdin's Cave' for all kids of household stuff - just take in an old funny shaped light bulb and they'll bring you a replacement. |
