April 2007 - Oxford v. Cambridge Boat Race
One of the great things about living so close to the river in Kew is the easy accessibility to the races on the Thames (and other events on the Thames path). The finish line of the Oxford / Cambridge boat race is just a few minutes down the river - and is probably about as crowded at it gets. Other events such as the Men's and Woman's Head of the River races also get a large turnout. Of course, most of the races (with a large number of boats) are timed - so getting to see the Oxford / Cambridge crews battling it out is a nice change.
This year we walked down the river to the Mortlake area - [popping out for ice cream, looking at classic cars, and to the playground - before heading back along the river to see the finish of the reserve team race that started at 4pm. It was quite crowded - and Ailsa was exhausted from such a long day. So... once Cambridge won the reserve team race, we scurried back home to watch the 4:30 Boat Race on the telly (Cambridge won)

Ahhh...the 'proper picnics' that people bring. |

Some photos from a race on April 1st - just before
and just after they hit the finish line. Some of the races have several hundred entries. |
