April 2007 - Out and About while on the Isle of Wight

Paul took a few days off, so we were able to enjoy a long weekend on the Isle of Wight. We had a chance to hit the garlic farm (said to be the best garlic in Europe). Shame that Quinton and Radhika couldn't take any with them back to Boston. As we left, we had a chance to swing by one of the vineyards on the island and pick up a few bottles. English wines are said to be steadily improving, with many of the UK sparkling wines beating the French in blind taste tests.

Had to throw this in...we had our local ducks visit our back yard the day that we left for the Isle of Wight. With the lake at Kew Gardens, the pond at Kew Green and the Wetlands centre nearby, it is a great area for ducks and this 'couple' are regulars in our area (I tend to see them on my way to the shops).

Our first day on the Island consisted of a trip to Osborne House - Queen Victoria's house on the Island, and also where she died.

Beautiful gardens

A lovely ice cream cone while dad takes a call
Checking out the beach
On Sunday we went on part of the 'bus tour of the island' and had a cream tea, before we set off on more kid friendly activities.
We went with Quinton, Radhika and their kids Jahnavi and Sunil to a great little farm aimed at kids.
The mini-tractors appeared to be a hit
A tractor ride (I sat that one out)
Quick dip in the pool
And then the 'Eckerd contingent' all went out to dinner (thanks to a sitter)
One last trip to the beach before everyone headed home
